Conversations We Do Not Have

Date: Sunday, August 11, 2013 to Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Venue: Durban Art Gallery

The Conversations exhibitions invite us to engage and contemplate our world through the words and imagery of ordinary women

Narratives and creative interventions within the Amazwi Collection, speak across time, language and social barriers. The idea of a sustained ‘conversation’ defines the exhibitions and invites the viewer to consider their own views and opinions, encouraging them to assess the status or measure of their particular acquiescence.

Ravi Govender on behalf of the MEC for Arts, Culture and Tourism, KZN.

“What is refreshing about this exhibition is that it does not only relate stories of prominent women but it is a collection of creative works of mostly rural and township women in the country.  It is exciting that this work has resulted in the establishment of a Women’s Museum, a first of its kind in the country and probably in the continent.  I want to commit the Department of Arts and Culture that we will do our utmost best to support this initiative.” MEC’s speech: August 9, 2013
